    The Water Treatment Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective operation and maintenance of water treatment facilities. This position involves monitoring and managing water quality, performing equipment repairs, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and candidate needs to be skilled in operation and maintenance of industrial equipment, as well as data collection and analysis.

    Duties: Monitor and analyze water quality parameters to ensure compliance with regulatory standards; Operate and maintain various water treatment equipment, including pumps, valves, and filtration systems along with general building and grounds maintenance; Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance; Troubleshoot and repair equipment malfunctions as needed; Collect data related to water treatment processes for reporting and analysis purposes; Utilize SCADA software to monitor system status and analyze historical trends to troubleshoot system irregularities and effectively plan for daily and seasonal water demands; Maintain accurate records of operations, maintenance activities, and water quality tests including chlorine residual, pH, iron and manganese; Collaborate with team members to improve operational efficiency and safety protocols.

    Requirements: Strong foundational knowledge in water treatment processes and practices; Proficiency in basic math skills for calculations related to chemical dosing, flow rates, pressure and volume; Proficiency in basic technology such as Windows PC and Apple iPad to be able to utilize SCADA and asset management software, to be able to complete daily workorders and data collection; Familiarity with logic controllers, SCADA and Asset Management is a plus; Ability to perform plumbing and basic mechanical tasks as required for system maintenance; Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues effectively; Strong attention to detail for accurate data collection and reporting; Willingness to work in various environmental conditions; Ability to work outside of normal business hours, when needed and be on call on a rotational basis; Must be able to work well independently or with a team; Report directly to Treatment Foreman and / or Operations Manager.

    Job Environment: Position may require exposure to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in this work environment is usually very loud. The position’s responsibilities are varied but follow standard routines; Errors can result in personal injury, delay or loss of service, monetary loss, and injury to other employees, damage to buildings or equipment or legal repercussions due to a failure by the employee to take appropriate and necessary action; The position may have occasional contact with the public.

    Eurofins Environment Testing, Granite State Analytical site in Derry, NH is looking for a Certified Water Operator. The position completes routine drinking water system equipment checks and perform sample collection at small public water systems throughout the state of NH. Additional duties would include regular maintenance and monitoring of water system components, and communication with both clients and the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES).     The Town of Meredith is currently seeking a full-time Water & Sewer Operator. The Operator performs work in the operation of the water treatment plant, wastewater collection system, and facilities. The Operator also inspects, maintains, and repairs plant equipment, performs manual labor and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair, construction, and installation of water systems including pipeline, valves, fire hydrants, pumps, meters, and service lines. Weekend coverage of facilities on a rotating basis and response to service calls and emergencies outside of normal working hours is required.

    Starting salary: $51,907.24/year per the AFSCME 1386A Working Agreement

    The purpose of this position is to assist, individually and with others, in the operation and maintenance of the City of Portsmouth’s sewer pump station facilities. This includes functions such as cleaning and maintaining pump stations, tanks, sludge equipment, performing preventative maintenance and repair work, and otherwise completing assigned work. The position may also assist, individually and with others, in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities, machinery and equipment according to the approved performance standards for which the operating unit is responsible. The primary location of work duties is the Public Works Facilities located in Portsmouth, NH however, daily activities may involve work at one of the 22 pump stations located throughout the sewer system area in Portsmouth and surrounding communities.

    MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants for this position must have graduated from high school or earned a graduate equivalent (GED). Three (3) years of experience in maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment is required. Knowledge of operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants or one (1) year of formal training in wastewater treatment preferred.  Advanced training in wastewater treatment plant operations, pumps, motors, or other skilled trade is highly desired. Incumbent has 18 months from date of hire to acquire a Grade I Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification.  The salary range for the Grade 1 certification is $54,479.24 - $60,063.21/year per the AFSCME 1386A Working Agreement. Incumbent then has 42 months from date of hire to acquire a Grade II Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification. The salary range for the Grade 2 certification is $60,296.67 - $66,477.07/year per the AFSCME 1386A Working Agreement. Certified operators are then required to complete ongoing education and training to renew certifications. Incumbent has 12 months from date of hire to acquire a commercial driver’s license (CDL), class B with Tanker Endorsement and have no offenses which would prohibit or restrict insurability by any insurance carrier providing coverage to the City.

    The Rye Water District is expanding its workforce to prepare for a significant upgrade to our water treatment system. We are currently seeking a full-time Water System Operator to work in a collaborative environment led by a highly experienced management staff. This position performs a variety of duties relating to the operation of a public drinking water system serving over 1,700 customers in the town of Rye. The water system includes three wells, chlorination and pH adjustment, booster pumps and three water storage tanks. Ongoing design of an iron-manganese-PFAS treatment system will involve construction and operation of this facility in the near future.

    Water Operator work includes meter reading, meter installation and servicing, sample collection, system flushing, pipe locating, system repair and maintenance, work order and data entry. Basic computer skills, hand/power tool skills and light equipment operation knowledge are necessities. Will be working on many occasions with the public served and will also be required to be in the rotation for scheduled weekend and holiday on-call coverage and be available for emergency situations. On-call duty includes an additional daily pay of $30/day during the week and $50/day on weekends and holidays.

    Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent and valid Driver’s License (non-CDL) are required. NH Water Works Operators Licenses T1 and D1 are preferred.     Job Description: Provides day-to-day monitoring and basic plant and pump/booster station operations, routine lab tests and basic corrective and preventative maintenance activities.

    Primary Duties/Responsibilities: Operates equipment manually and through instrumentation panels, computer terminals and programmable logic control units following p rocess control procedures. Monitors and observes operating conditions, records observations and data in shift log. Diagnoses basic operational problems and takes corrective action per procedure; Performs routine CLAIR (cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, inspection and minor repair) on machines and related equipment which may include pumps, engines, centrifuges, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed, odor control, disinfection equipment, vacuum filters and belt presses. Reports and documents results of work performed and enters into appropriate database. Promptly reports any operational problems with machines or equipment to Lead or Supervisor; Collects water, wastewater, industrial waste, groundwater, sludge, residuals and/or gas samples according to schedule. Performs field tests (chemical, physical and biological) in order to pace chemical dosages for process and odor control units. Prepares chemical solutions, monitors supplies and recommends reorder; Performs routine lab tests and prepares reports per procedure; Performs routine instrument calibration for portable meters including, but not limited to, dissolved oxygen, pH, H2S, percent oxygen, lower explosive limit; Learns to inspect and becomes proficient at mechanical troubleshooting to determine repairs needed. Dismantles equipment to gain access to and repairs defective parts using hand tools, power tools and precision measuring and testing devices. Re-assembles and tests equipment ensuring safe and efficient operating condition is restored. Learns to troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic and electronic equipment and instrumentation; Performs manual labor including cleaning equipment, facilities and grounds as required and properly disposes of waste according to safety and environmental policies. Operates vehicles, mobile equipment and material handling equipment for operational and maintenance purposes; Performs facility maintenance and repair and may replace or install light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, damaged glass, windows, doors, partitions, ceiling or floor tiles, door locks, carpet, and/or paint; Learns to estimate time and material costs for various projects. May assist in other areas of facility as directed.

    Work Environment: Spends 100% of the time in operations environment; Typically spends 25 – 35% of time exposed to outdoor and sometimes inclement weather; Company service vehicles are used as required; Travels 1 – 2 times per year for company provided training; May be required to travel up to five consecutive days; May serve rotational 24-hour emergency on-call; Possible Work Hazards : May be exposed to possible operations hazards including fumes, dust, toxic and caustic chemicals, noise, rotating machinery, high pressure and hot and cold temperatures, slippery surfaces, water and electrical hazards.

    Qualifications: High school or GED with the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions) and be able to carry out verbal and written instructions; Six months to two years of experience in a related position with experience in a similar environment preferred with ability to comprehend specifications, blueprints and manuals preferred; Experience using power, pneumatic, hydraulic and hand tools and shop tools such as drill press, band saw, bench grinder, torque wrench preferred.

    Abilities: Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; Some vocational training and mechanical aptitude preferred, with the ability to read, interpret and record data from meters, gauges, scales, panels, computer consoles and other equipment; Must have the ability to diagnose basic and routine process and mechanical problems and take remedial corrective action; Must have basic computer skills and have ability to operate programs for process control, the Computer Maintenance Management System, and laboratory/industrial pretreatment QA/QC; Must consistently demonstrate the ability to learn and independently perform assigned duties and meet or exceed production and quality goals; Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily; Must be able to serve rotational 24-hour emergency on-call if required by site.

    Requirements: Responsible for water distribution and sewer collection system operations, including maintenance of water valves, meters and hydrants; hydrant flushing; installation and repair of water and sewer mains; jetting of sewer mains; sewer manhole repair; operation of heavy equipment including vacuum truck, dump truck, front end loader and backhoe.     Job Description: Responsible for the efficient and effective operations of the surface water and groundwater treatment plants. Operator maintains appropriate local, state and federal report forms in accordance with rules and statutes. They acquire water samples and conduct test procedures, as required, as well as, monitor and adjust control apparatus in accordance with appropriate procedures. Constant inspection of plant equipment and machinery is necessary so the operator can adjust as needed and perform necessary cleaning or maintenance tasks. Ability to keep detailed records of tests and graph recording consumption is necessary. Operator fills towers, backwashes, filters and controls the rate of water flow to and from treatment plants, as required by appropriate procedure. The operator is responsible for responding to emergency calls and operates emergency generators at plants and pumping stations. Must have the ability to investigate customer calls regarding water related problems

    Minimum Qualifications: Requires knowledge of water treatment systems and operations equivalent to completion of a high school diploma along with advanced courses from a two-year college or technical school, and one to three years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current State of New Hampshire Water Works Operator Certification - Treatment Grade I with the ability to acquire a Grade II certification within 1 year. Valid NH Driver’s License required.

    The Town of Meredith is currently seeking a full-time Water & Sewer Operator. The Operator performs work in the operation of the water treatment plant, wastewater collection system, and facilities. The Operator also inspects, maintains, and repairs plant equipment, performs manual labor and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair, construction, and installation of water systems including pipeline, valves, fire hydrants, pumps, meters, and service lines. Weekend coverage of facilities on a rotating basis and response to service calls and emergencies outside of normal working hours is required.

    Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent and NH Driver’s License (non-CDL) are required. NH Water Works Operators Licenses T1 and D1 are preferred. Willing to train unlicensed, motivated candidates who exhibit mechanical aptitude and are looking to start a career in water treatment. College graduates with a BS degree in environmental science, biology, or related discipline, but who do not meet the experience or licensure requirements, are also encouraged to apply.

    SUMMARY: The Environmental Coordinator is responsible for the management of the Town’s wastewater system and solid waste disposal and recycling activities. Reports to and operates under the general supervision of the DPW Director. Must be knowledgeable in the operation and maintenance of wastewater collection facilities, regulations, and construction practices. Must be able to use hand tools and testing equipment in the operation and maintenance of valves, pumps, samplers, and flow recorders and knowledgeable in areas of solid waste disposal, recycling technology and practice. Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing and work effectively with the Town Council, Town Manager, Department Heads, other employees of the Town, and the public.

    TYPICAL DUTIES: Reviews all plans and specifications for the construction of new sewer lines and facilities. Forwards plans to appropriate state agencies for review. Inspects all sewer construction for compliance with applicable codes and construction standards. Operates and maintains siphon and pump stations. Prepares the Sewer Divisions annual budget request for submission to the Public Works Director. Works with Manchester and Merrimack Officials and Town staff in the preparation and mailing of sewer utility bills. Answers questions from customers, developers and contractors with regard to sewer service. Works with transfer station personnel to implement recycling programs and meet State rules for the operation of solid waste facilities.
